When asked what aspect of working at the MIYC she enjoys most, Laura responds with, "The members and guests are very friendly. It’s a wonderful setting and everyone is happy to have the opportunity to stay at the club and enjoy the facilities."
After growing up in Lansing, Laura came to Mackinac to work at the Mackinac Island State Park at 18 years of age. Laura was a secretary to Dr. Eugene T. Petersen, Superintendent of the State Park, and worked in that capacity for about 10 years and then returned to college to pursue a teaching degree. She has been a teacher at Mackinac Island Public School for 17 years teaching all the grades in elementary school except First Grade. Presently she teaches Second and Third Grade.
Laura enjoys gardening and started a summer business taking care of several of the hotel gardens on the island. She also waited tables part-time at the Pub and Oyster Bar and, for the last five years, has worked special functions at the Yacht Club.
Her interests are in all outdoor sports. She likes to run, bike, and walk the numerous trails on the island. She also owns a kayak and spends as much time as possible on the lake.
